Sterling4Sterling is an absolutely gorgeous 13 lb. black and silver schnauzer; he’s only 1.5 years old and is still learning to subdue his schnauzer enthusiasm. His foster mom says that Sterling really is a good boy. He’s also intense. He must have another energetic dog to play with and a calm home. He much prefers women, but he has accepted the man in his foster home because he is super calm, and moves very slowly when approaching him. Sterling responds well to that and will sit in his lap and play with him. But when the husband comes in the house, Sterling has to be re-convinced that he can trust him. But then as soon as Sterling sees the husband pet the other schnauzer in the house, he decides all is well and runs over for pets and loves. He doesn’t want to be left out. He would do well with a female-only household, but can learn to love a man that has the right commitment to him and patience.

Sterling3Sterling will need lots of training and very patient owners who are willing to work with him to gain his trust and teach him that the world is not scary.  If anything startles him inside or outside, he wants to retreat. He is a sucker for a treat and once that trust is established, Sterling is ready to go to the backyard to play or for a walk on the leash. When playing, he is still puppy-mouthy.  He will flinch when you reach out to pet him, but loves human contact. If you stop petting him, he (in typical schnauzer fashion) will paw at you until you start again.  He is very trainable and sits for treats. He must have the high jump gene because he can leap over baby gates to follow you into the next room. His crate is his safe place, and he likes the kitty in the house; he stopped chasing her since she swatted him LOL. He does fine with house-training when following a schedule and does great overnight.

Sterling5Sterling2Bonus: storms don’t bother him except he does not like to go outside to potty in the rain. In short, he is a fantastic, young, good boy that needs training and lots of love and patience.  He needs an owner who is sensitive to his fears and can help him become the very best schnauzer he was born to be!  If you can meet all of Sterling’s wants and requirements, please go our website at www.schnauzerloverescue.net and apply, asking for Sterling in Tennessee.
