Hello to my future “fur-ever” home people! My name is Gaspar and I am a standard schnauzer and I am a rare find on page normally full of miniature schnauzers, but here I am. Don’t wait long to apply to adopt me. I am being fostered in the Big Bend/Panhandle area of North Florida and I am an 8 year old, black, neutered male, standard schnauzer.
Yes, my name is Gaspar which is short for Gasparilla, the annual Hard Rock Gasparilla Pirate Fest held in Tampa, Florida. My original owner received me as a gift when I was just a pup and since she had grown up in the Tampa area, she decided to name me Gaspar as a reminder of home. She is married now and has 3 children under the age of four which makes it very difficult for her to give me the love and attention I had become accustomed to receiving. She loved me so much she made the difficult decision to surrender me to Schnauzer Love Rescue where she knew I would be loved and cared for until my “fur-ever” people found me.
I’m a calm guy who is 22” tall at the shoulder and weighs 36 pounds. I get along with other dogs and children. I enjoy leisurely walks around the block and I get excited when I see other dogs (and sometimes people) so I have a tendency to tug on my leash when this happens. I am not a fan of the UPS, FedEx or Amazon trucks and would chase them if my foster mom let me. I am house trained and know a few basic commands like sit, down, stay and off. My foster mom and dad have introduced me to a crate where I stay when they run errands or are on a date. I was always allowed to sleep on the furniture and on the bed so this crate thing is new to me. (There is one special chair I am allowed to be in!) Car rides, I’m working on. I get excited when we go to the car and I jump right in ready to go, however, once we start moving, I change my mind. I enjoy being outside sunbathing until I get too hot then off to the air conditioning I go.
It took me about a month to really feel settled with my foster family; the 3- 3-3 (3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months) rule is a real thing. I didn’t play with many toys until my foster parents brought home a foster brother then I wanted all of the toys. I have a favorite bone I enjoy chewing on so my foster parents bought one like it so my new “brother” can have his own.I’m not so small you have to worry about stepping on me and I’m not too big that I appear clumsy and awkward in your home. To quote Goldilocks, “and this is just right” size. If you are looking for a mature, gentle guy who loves to be near his people, I AM your dog.
